Some weddings are full of beautiful details. Others stay with you because of how they felt. Charlotte and Adam's wedding was a little of both.
Beginning with an intimate church ceremony at St John the Baptist Church in Burscough, followed by a relaxed celebration at the iconic Titanic Hotel Liverpool, their day brought together timeless black tie style, beautiful surroundings and the people closest to them.
It was elegant without feeling formal, thoughtful without being overly planned, and filled with the little moments that made it unmistakably theirs.
As wedding photographers, these are the days we love documenting. The ones where couples can simply be themselves, enjoy their surroundings and spend time with the people who matter most.
A Church Wedding at St John the Baptist Church, Burscough
The day began at St John the Baptist Church in Burscough, where Charlotte and Adam gathered with their closest family and friends to celebrate their marriage.
There was something particularly beautiful about the light inside the church. Against the darker surroundings, the sunlight created a lovely contrast, adding atmosphere and depth to the photographs.
We always love looking for these little opportunities within a wedding venue. Sometimes it's the light falling through a window, a quiet expression or a fleeting glance between two people that creates a photograph worth remembering.
Charlotte and Adam were keen to bring an editorial feel to their photographs, which gave us plenty of room to be creative. We explored different compositions, played with the available light and created a few different moods while keeping everything relaxed and natural.
It was a lovely balance between creating something visually considered and allowing the day to unfold around us.
Relaxed Black Tie Style at Titanic Hotel Liverpool
Following the church ceremony, the celebrations continued at Titanic Hotel Liverpool.
With its distinctive industrial character and historic surroundings, the hotel provided a beautiful setting for Charlotte and Adam's black tie wedding. The contrast between the venue's character and their elegant styling gave the day a timeless, understated feel.
But what we loved most was that, despite the beautiful setting, nothing felt overly formal.
Charlotte and Adam were able to enjoy their time together, surrounded by family and friends, without feeling that every moment needed to be planned or directed.
For us, this is what makes documentary wedding photography so special. It's not just about photographing how everything looks, but noticing how people interact with each other and capturing the atmosphere as it naturally develops.
A Quiet Moment and Cake Cutting in the Hotel Room
One of our favourite parts of the day was the cake cutting in the Titanic Hotel room.
Away from the busier celebrations, it offered a quieter moment for Charlotte and Adam to enjoy together.
There was something lovely about the simplicity of it. Just the two of them, sharing a moment, looking at each other, whispering and laughing.
We find that some of the most meaningful wedding photographs come from moments like these. They don't need elaborate styling or complicated direction. Sometimes all that's needed is a little space for two people to enjoy being together.
We were able to photograph these moments with a more editorial eye, paying attention to the surroundings, the light and the small gestures between them.
The photographs feel considered, but never forced. A little glimpse into a moment that belonged entirely to them.
The Little Moments Between the Big Ones
Looking back at Charlotte and Adam's wedding, it's the smaller interactions that bring the story together.
The way they looked into each other's eyes. The quiet whispers, the laughter and the way they naturally held hands.
These moments might seem small at the time, but they're often the ones that become especially meaningful when you look back at your photographs years later.
Throughout the day, we wanted to give Charlotte and Adam the freedom to enjoy everything around them. Rather than constantly interrupting their time together, we observed, moved quietly and looked for those natural connections.
It's a reminder that a wedding story isn't made up of just the ceremony, portraits and speeches. It's also found in the pauses, the glances and all the little things happening in between.
An Intimate Celebration with Family and Friends
After the quieter moments, the day continued with a relaxed celebration surrounded by their closest family and friends.
There was no need for anything to feel overly complicated. The atmosphere was intimate, warm and full of the people who meant the most to them.
We loved the contrast throughout the day. The elegance of the black tie styling, the character of the Titanic Hotel, the creative editorial photographs and, at the heart of it all, two people simply enjoying their wedding together.
It's a lovely reminder that you don't need an elaborate schedule or a day full of traditions to create something memorable.
Sometimes the best weddings are the ones that leave room for things to happen naturally.
