Hannah & Jake’s a classic church wedding at Hallé St Peter's
A classic Manchester wedding, filled with the people, laughter and little moments that made it theirs.
Some weddings don't need to reinvent tradition.
There's something timeless about getting married in a church, surrounded by the people who have known you the longest, before spending the rest of the day celebrating together. Hannah and Jake's wedding at Hallé St Peter's in Manchester was exactly that.
It was classic in all the best ways. A beautiful church ceremony. Family and friends gathered together.
Plenty of laughter.
A few emotional moments.
And a day that felt warm, relaxed and completely theirs.
For us, the beauty of a wedding like this isn't in trying to make it look different. It's in photographing what makes it special. The anticipation before the ceremony. The way people look at each other. The hugs afterwards. The laughter that starts as soon as everyone realises the formal part is over. And all the little moments that happen when people who matter to you are together in the same place.
A classic church wedding in Manchester
There's something about a church wedding that creates a real sense of occasion.
There's the anticipation beforehand, as everyone finds their place and waits for the ceremony to begin. There's the moment Hannah arrives. Jake waiting. Family and friends watching. And then, suddenly, they're standing together and everything else seems to disappear for a while.
These are the moments everyone expects us to photograph, of course. But they're only part of the story. We're also watching the people around them. The reaction from a parent. A friend smiling from the other side of the church. Someone wiping away a tear. A little glance between two people. The moments that happen in the background while Hannah and Jake are completely focused on each other.
That's what makes photographing a church wedding so rewarding.
There's a sense of tradition and ceremony, but there are also all these very human moments happening within it. And those are the photographs that help tell the story properly.
The ceremony at Hallé St Peter’s
Once the ceremony begins, everything naturally becomes a little quieter.
The room changes, everyone is paying attention and Hannah and Jake can finally stop thinking about everything that has happened to get them there and simply enjoy the fact that they're getting married.
We don't need to direct anything here. We just need to be ready.
Ready for the look.
The smile.
The emotion.
The laughter when something unexpected happens.
The moment they realise they're actually married.
And then that first rush of congratulations as they walk back out together.
Those first few minutes afterwards are some of our favourites. Everyone wants to hug them. Everyone wants to say something. People are smiling. People are emotional. And Hannah and Jake suddenly have the chance to take a breath and realise that the rest of the day is theirs to enjoy.
The moments between the big ones
The big moments are easy to expect.
Walking down the aisle.
The vows.
The first kiss.
The photographs with family.
But weddings are full of smaller moments that happen almost unnoticed.
A hand on a shoulder.
Someone laughing during a conversation.
A parent watching their child.
Friends catching up.
A quiet glance between Hannah and Jake.
Someone completely unaware that they're being photographed.
These are the moments we find ourselves looking for throughout the day.
Not because they're more important than the big moments, but because they're what surround them. A wedding isn't made up of a handful of perfect photographs. It's made up of hundreds of tiny interactions, expressions and memories that happen around the main events. And sometimes, years later, it's one of those photographs that takes you straight back. You might not remember what was being said. You might not even remember the moment happening. But you'll recognise the people. You'll remember the feeling. And suddenly, you're there again.
Beautiful portraits without disappearing from your wedding
We always want to make time for some photographs of the two of you.
But that doesn't mean disappearing for an hour while everyone else carries on without you. Your wedding day is about being with your people, and we don't want photography to get in the way of that. So when there's a natural opportunity, we'll find somewhere that works and give you a little time together. We'll help with the light and give you some gentle direction, but there's no complicated posing and no expectation that you should know what to do.
You can walk.
Talk.
Laugh.
Take a moment.
Enjoy being together.
Sometimes we'll create something a little more considered, particularly if the surroundings and light give us the opportunity. Other times, we'll simply let you interact and see what happens. The aim is for the photographs to feel like a reflection of you rather than a performance for the camera.
Natural.
Relaxed.
Beautiful.
And still completely yours.
Hallé St Peter’s as part of the story
Hallé St Peter's gives a wedding photographs a real sense of place.
There's the architecture, the light, the textures and the character of the building, all of which give us plenty to work with. But we never want the venue to become the subject of the photograph. It's there to frame the story. To give the photographs atmosphere. To remind Hannah and Jake where they were when they look back through them years from now.
Sometimes the architecture might fill the frame. Other times, it's barely noticeable. It might just be a doorway, a patch of light or a little bit of texture behind someone. The surroundings matter - but the people matter more.
Because you won't look back at your wedding photographs simply to remember what the building looked like. You'll look at them to remember who was there.
The people who made the day
One of the best things about a wedding like Hannah and Jake's is how much of the story belongs to the people around them.
Family.
Friends.
The people who've been there for years.
The people who have watched their relationship grow.
The people who came together to celebrate this particular day with them.
We love photographing those relationships.
The hugs.
The laughter.
The conversations.
The little looks between people who know each other well.
The reactions during the speeches.
Someone laughing before the punchline has even finished.
Someone trying very hard not to cry.
And all the moments that happen when everyone is simply enjoying being together.
Because your wedding isn't just a day about the two of you. It's also a chance to see all of your favourite people in one place. And that's something worth remembering.
Two photographers, more of the people you love
This is one of the reasons we work as a two photographer team. There are always things happening that you can't see. While one of us is with Hannah and Jake, the other can be watching the people around them.
We can photograph the reactions during the ceremony.
The conversations during drinks.
The people arriving.
The little moments happening across the room.
And while Hannah and Jake are busy being part of their own wedding, we're able to quietly photograph everything happening around them too.
It means the final gallery isn't just a collection of photographs of the couple. It's the people who came to celebrate with them. The atmosphere of the day. The moments they missed. The things they didn't know were happening. And that's what helps turn a collection of wedding photographs into something that feels much more like a complete memory of the day.
A classic wedding that still felt completely theirs
There's nothing wrong with a classic wedding. In fact, some of the most beautiful weddings are the ones that embrace tradition while still feeling completely personal. Hannah and Jake didn't need to choose between the two.
They could have the church.
The beautiful setting.
The family photographs.
The speeches.
The celebrations.
All of the familiar parts of a wedding day.
And still have something that felt relaxed and completely theirs.
That's something we really love. Because you don't have to reject tradition to have an authentic wedding. You don't have to make everything unusual. You don't have to create a wedding that looks completely different from everyone else's. You just have to make the choices that feel right for you. And then enjoy them.
